Sweets-Themed Christmas DIY Decor

DIY

Many pieces of adorable sweet-themed Christmas DIY decor have been floating around the internet lately so I decided to create a few of my own. Every year, we put up a cupcake-themed Christmas tree and these cute items will accent our tree perfectly!

Christmas Book Stack

This adorable book stack was made using wood that was leftover from a previous project. First, I painted the wood blocks and added vinyl text that I cut using my Cricut machine. I used white Crayola Model Magic to create tiny marshmallows and finished the piece by adding plastic peppermint sprinkles to the top of the book stack. My precision-tipped tweezers were very helpful when applying the embellishments.

This piece is the perfect addition to my sweet treats-themed tiered tray.

Santa’s Sweet Shop

I love creating crate stands for each season and Christmas is no exception. As the seasons change, I enjoy thinking of new ways to accessorize the stand.

The gumdrops in the jar with the red lid were once tiny ornaments from Hobby Lobby but I removed the sides of the ornaments and gave them a new life as gumdrops. I found the peppermints for the other glass jar in the jewelry section at Hobby Lobby. The mini candy canes came from Hobby Lobby as well.

Snowman Hot Cocoa

This snowman was inspired by two small ornaments I saw while recently browsing at Hobby Lobby and World Market. The ornaments were adorable but I wanted something a bit bigger so I created my own version using a mug from Dollar Tree. The marshmallows were made using Crayola’s Model Magic and I used colored hot glue sticks to create the hot cocoa.

Gingerbread House

A Dollar Tree dollhouse was given a new life in this fun DIY. After painting the entire house with brown chalk paint, I used white fabric paint, plastic candies, and spackle from the hardware store to bring the gingerbread house to life. The best part about this house is that it can be customized to any decor style.

Styrofoam Cupcakes

These adorable cupcakes were inspired by Christina from lemonavenuelife on Instagram.

To create these decorative sweet treats, I painted Dollar Tree styrofoam balls using two different shades of brown chalk paint and added the look of icing using spackle from the hardware store. I used glitter, Dollar Tree tube confetti, and various candy and gingerbread ornaments to embellish these Christmas sweets and I love the way they look sitting on the tiered tray in my kitchen.
