Winter Decor to DIY Instead of Buy

DIY

My house always feels extremely bare when I put away the Christmas decor so I created a few pieces of winter DIY decor that I can leave out during the month of January.

Snow Globe Candle

This project was inspired by some beautiful winter candles I saw while browsing on Anthropologie’s website.

For my version, I used an Aldi candle as a base and glued bottle brush trees of varying heights to the lid. I poured some artificial snow into a Dollar Tree DIY snow globe and used hot glue to adhere the globe to the candle lid.

I was able to put my DIY snow globe candle together for $11.00, which is a steal compared to the $38.00 Anthropologie inspiration piece.

Candle Centerpiece

I came across a beautiful centerpiece for $69.99 while browsing on Kirkland’s website and it sparked an idea to create a woodland-themed version of the piece.

For the base of the centerpiece, I used a basswood slab that I purchased on sale at Hobby Lobby. I added three deer ornaments from Target and finished the project with Dollar Tree candlesticks, pine picks, pinecones, and LED tea lights.

Shadowboxes

This simple project was inspired by a set of shadowboxes that I found on Pottery Barn’s website.

I purchased snowflake and deer ornaments at Dollar Tree and removed the glitter and ornament hangers from the pieces. After placing pieces of white poster board in two Dollar Tree frames, I used Tacky glue to adhere the ornaments to the insides of the picture frames.

The total cost for my version of the shadowboxes was $6.25, which is a bargain compared to the $129 Pottery Barn inspiration pieces.

Tree Banner

Like the previous DIY, Pottery Barn provided the inspiration for this fun piece. I found a beautiful holiday tree banner for $129 on the website and thought that if I created a similar version of the tree without the star on the top, I could leave it up past Christmas.

To assemble the base, I cut a canvas drop cloth from Lowe’s to my preferred size and added square dowels to the top and bottom of the canvas.

I used my Cricut Maker 3 to cut a pine tree design out of infusible ink and applied the design to the canvas with the help of my Cricut Easy Press 2.

My version of the tree banner cost $15.50 and I have enough canvas drop cloth left over to create more projects in the future.
